Landscapes
Santa Maria is the only island of the archipelago that has soils of sedimentary origin; therefore it is easy to find a variety of shell-fish fossils and of other larger species. The island has a varied landscape.
The northeast part of the island is quite irregular, while on the west it presents a flatter region.
The coastline is very indented, and the headlands and inlets are excellent for water sports.
